I was very interested in the article on “How Special Camshafts are Made” in your last issue, especially the timing diagrams.

At present I am running a standard Hillman which has been fitted with a two-seater sports body, and am thinking of having the timing altered.

Can you suggest any suitable improvement of the timing diagrams enclosed, and would it be possible to give the valves more lift ?

If you can offer any suggestion I shall be very much obliged, and shall look forward to more articles of technical interest to sporting car owners. Yours faithfully,

Malvern. H. L. FRANCIS. [Your diagram appears to indicate that the exhaust is too late in opening, and more period should be given to the inlet valves. We are sending you a suggested diagram by post. Before deciding to increase the valve lift, make sure that the plungers will clear the inside of their guides, so that there will be no chance of jambing.—EDIT0R.]
