TRANSVAAL HILL-CLIMBING. Austin ” Seven ” Successes.
Under the auspices of the Transvaal Automobile Club, several hill-climbing competitions were held last April, on the severe hill in the Transvaal called ” Mulder’s Drift Hill.” The hill is anything but an easy one to negotiate, having several almost hairpin corners, and a rough surface. In seven-eighths of a mile the road rises 86o feet, and the steepest part of the gradient is one in four.
In this trial, Austin ” Sevens ” did remarkably well, securing First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Seventh places in the Class for cars of 1,350 c.c. and under.
