Le Tough Jog

July 7, 2014

Ice and snow made this winter’s Le Jog the toughest so far, with just one Gold Medal, for Geoff Awde/ Peter Ward in their MGA coupe. The sixth End-to-End trial cut some tortuous tests when even 4x4s couldn’t cope, but 72 of 101 starters overcame 1650 miles of narrow lanes and hairpin passes to reach John O’Groats. Rlleys took the Marque Trophy, while Malcolm McKay/Richard Disbrow rated ‘Spirit of the Rally’ after a fraught run in their Rochdale Olympic. GC

Bravely ignoring his degree in industrial design after discovering night rallies in a Renault 8, GC joined Motor Sport by accident, in the Teesdale days around 1982 when Jenks and WB were office regulars and Mr Tee ruled with a rod of cardboard. He took part in some of the early historic rallies, winning one of the Pirelli Marathons, and regularly runs his Mk2 Jaguar in road events.
