Roy Baker the team owner with the record of entering more Group C races than any other, died shortly before Christmas following complications which developed after an operation.

Originally a racer, he switched to cars from motorcycles, climbing as far as Formula Two by the start of the 1980s. He then moved to sportscar racing, at first as a driver.

However, he was best known as an entrant, and fielded Tigas throughout the height of Group C in the 1980s. Often scraping together deals to keep his cars racing, he was a tireless worker and won many friends and admirers around the paddocks. He competed at Le Mans a total of 16 times.

In more recent times, despite being confined to a wheelchair, he continued to work as a team manager and engineer on both sides of the Atlantic. PL

Here is a man who goes racing every weekend from March to October. Paul’s passion for the sport goes back to when he was a child of the 1960s.
