A sizeable crowd enjoys a privileged, close-up view as Juan Manuel Fangio (Maserati 250F) heads for the second of four Grand Prix victories during a season in which he became motor racing’s first five-time world champion – a distinction that would remain unequalled until Michael Schumacher drew level in 2002. Fangio beat Tony Brooks’ Vanwall by 25.2sec on this occasion, the pair of them two laps clear of Masten Gregory’s Maserati 250F.
