Toyota hybrid points to Le Mans return

July 7, 2014

Toyota appears to be gearing up for a return to the Le Mans 24 Hours. Rumours that Toyota’s petrol-electric hybrid technology is already being run in an LMP1 test hack have not been denied by the Japanese manufacturer. It would only say that it is “continuing the hybrid race car project”.

It is understood that Toyota has renewed its relationship with Japanese constructor Dome, with which it raced at Le Mans in the mid-1980s. It is believed that a Toyota hybrid system has been fitted to an earlier-generation Dome LMP1 rather than the S102 coupé that raced in last June’s 24 Hours.
