Peter Hannen, organiser of the Masaryk GP at Brno on June 12-14, wants to create a series of historic endurance events. The plan was to have races of 300km (Imola), 400km (Brno) and 500km (Nürburgring), and while the ‘Ring event isn’t happening this year, the other two will offer plenty of racing miles for sports-prototypes and GTs, plus an invitation class for anything which appeals to the organisers, giving less exotic machines like Lancia Aurelias a decent chance of a share in the awards. But Hannen deserves especial approval for his rule that the owner must drive half the race “to reduce the hired gun quota”. GC

Bravely ignoring his degree in industrial design after discovering night rallies in a Renault 8, GC joined Motor Sport by accident, in the Teesdale days around 1982 when Jenks and WB were office regulars and Mr Tee ruled with a rod of cardboard.
