King reins in Lotus 72

July 7, 2014

American James King will realise a life ambition by racing a Lotus 72 in a selection of classic events in Europe this summer, including the Monaco Historic GP. King raced F2 and F3 in Europe in the mid-70s and has more recently campaigned a variety of historic single-seaters. But now he has arranged to race the JPS-liveried Lotus 72 of Classic Team Lotus.

“We all grew up watching Jochen Rindt, Emerson Fittipaldi and Ronnie Peterson (below) racing 72s,” said King. “It’s a beautiful car and should be fun. But the last thing you want to do is damage it.”

Paul Lawrence

Here is a man who goes racing every weekend from March to October. Paul’s passion for the sport goes back to when he was a child of the 1960s. He has organised, competed in and marshalled on scores of events, and has written about the subject for 20 years. He is as at home in the paddock at Brands Hatch as in a Welsh forest or at Shelsley Walsh.
