It was with interest that I read your article “The Diesel Background” in the January issue of Motor Sport. An interesting car which I almost purchased two or three years ago was brought to mind. My recollections of the vehicle are rather vague now, but as far as I can remember the car was a 1935 (?) Lagonda LG45 Sports Saloon fitted with a Gardner diesel engine (details forgotten but my insurance company were not at all keen and quoted well over £100 for Third Party only).
This, the Earls Court Show Car, was purchased new by Gardner to develop a passenger-car engine which was not, as I understand, put into production. A Jaguar Mk. V gearbox had been linked to the engine, and as far as I could ascertain the rest of the car was original Lagonda.
