Brooks bids for US car auction market

It is scarcely 10 years since I watched agog as Christies sold the Kellner Coupe Bugatti Royale for £5.5 million. The man behind the gavel was Robert Brooks who, having crowned his career with the most expensive sale of a car at auction in history, left to go it alone.

Since then Brooks has notched up the most valuable car auction in history (£18 million in 1989) and is now off to conquer the US. Brooks is so bullish about prospects that he says he’d not be surprised to see business outstripping that of Britain and Europe in three years. AF
