World Champions to honour McRae

July 7, 2014

Some of rallying’s greats could take part in the McRae Stages Rally in Scotland on September 27 to honour the memory of Colin McRae, who died in a helicopter crash in 2007. The McRae family has long supported the rally of its home club, Coltness CC, and having stars in cars such as Ford Escort Mk2s would be a fitting tribute. Björn Waldegård and Stig Blomqvist have confirmed their interest to Colin’s father, Jimmy.

“We have been talking about it and I would like to do the rally,” said Blomqvist.

Here is a man who goes racing every weekend from March to October. Paul’s passion for the sport goes back to when he was a child of the 1960s. He has organised, competed in and marshalled on scores of events, and has written about the subject for 20 years. He is as at home in the paddock at Brands Hatch as in a Welsh forest or at Shelsley Walsh.
