Audi eyes R8 GT racer

July 7, 2014

Audi is on course to race its R8 supercar in the near future.

A senior member of the board has admitted that it has competition plans for the 4.2-litre V8 car that takes its name from Audi’s five-time Le Mans-winning prototype. It is unclear where the car will race, but it is most likely to be aimed at customers.

A GT3 version of the R8 is a likely first step, but rumours suggest Audi is eyeing developments on the GT scene and could support plans drawn up by Chevrolet, Aston Martin, Porsche and Ferrari to create a new GT class to replace GT1 and GT2.
