Porsche date for Vic and Attwood

More than 40 Porsche 911 Carrera RS and RSRs assembled at Hedingham Castle in Essex in September to celebrate the 40th anniversary of one of Stuttgart’s most legendary models. The impressive line-up included cars from England, France and Germany.

The ‘Classics at the Castle’ gathering for pre-1973 Porsches also boasted a small but significant display of the company’s endurance racers, which included Richard Attwood’s Le Mans-winning short-tail 917 of 1970 and Vic Elford’s 907, the first Porsche to win a major 24-hour race: Daytona, 1968.

Both Elford and Attwood attended the event and could be seen inspecting the ranks of RSs, 356s and 911s, awarding rosettes to those cars they thought worthy. Elford had also taken part in an after-dinner question-and-answer session the night before, recalling his days racing Porsches in such events as the British Saloon Car Championship, Daytona and the Targa Florio.
