Bond back on track... at 75

July 7, 2014

Former F3 ace Bev Bond is planning to race in Historic Formula Ford next season – at the age of 75.

The move forms part of his campaign to promote cancer awareness in men. Regarded as a rising star during the late 1960s, Bond made a comeback in 2010 after a 30-year break and has raced sporadically during treatment for both leukaemia and cancer.

Bond believes many men fail to take their health seriously enough. “It is such a positive story that this old guy with cancer is still going racing,” he said. “It’s fulfilling an old man’s passion and raising awareness at the same time.”

He has organised, competed in and marshalled on scores of events, and has written about the subject for 20 years. He is as at home in the paddock at Brands Hatch as in a Welsh forest or at Shelsley Walsh.
