After first cancelled and then delayed Goodwood events in 2020 and ’21, the historic racing scene is finally getting back to normality.
There’s no better example of this than the 79th Members’ Meeting, which will be running and displaying 26 fearsome V10 F1 cars, showing that the blue riband racing occasion really has returned to full force.
There’s a strong argument to say the sweetest (and probably loudest) sounds ever produced by grand prix cars came from the V10 period, prompting the Members’ Meeting to pay tribute to these charismatic machines.

The headliners from the F1 demonstration include the McLaren MP4/5B, the car used by Ayrton Senna as he battled fiercely with Alain Prost throughout 1990, which culminated in the pair colliding at Suzuka’s first corner making Senna world champion.
Driving this car will be Senna’s nephew Bruno. The veteran of 43 grand prix starts has often driven his uncle’s cars before and will be familiar with the MP4/5B. The Brazilian is sure to get a few misty-eyed as the iconic Senna crash helmet colours are reunited with the famous McLaren Marlboro livery.
The McLaren will be joined – sadly only on display – by the Williams FW18. The Grove machine took 12 out of 16 wins in a truly dominant ’96 season, which saw Damon Hill finally take the drivers’ title.

Also on show from the Woking stable will be the McLaren MP4/20, the car in which Kimi Räikkönen arguably could and should have won the 2005 world title. The Finn showed staggering pace that year, winning seven races but reliability problems stymied his championship challenge.
The first two of Michael Schumacher’s cars from his mightily successful Ferrari period will be on show at Goodwood also. The John Barnard-designed 310 is the first, in which Schumacher famously trounced the field at a monsooned Barcelona in 1996, as well as the 310B. Schumacher used the latter to notoriously ram Jacques Villeneuve in a desperate bid to prevent the Canadian’s winning overtake, ultimately seeing the Ferrari man disqualified from the championship.
Also joining will be a selection of midfield classics such as the Jordan 194. Rubens Barrichello was at the wheel of this model to score his and the Silverstone team’s first podium at the Pacific GP and their debut pole at Spa-Francorchamps.
Present too will be the Minardi 189, which plucky F1 perennial Pierluigi Martini took to the front row at Phoenix ’90 and scored several points finishes in.
