At 2.30pm, exactly 65 years after the start of the 1955 British Grand Prix, a crowd once more gathered at Aintree to watch a Formula 1 car set off from the grid.
Celebrating Stirling Moss’s first World Championship victory and the first home winner of a British Grand Prix, the three-lap demonstration run took place on the full Grand Prix circuit on Thursday 16 July.
Moss won the race in a Mercedes W196, but the anniversary was commemorated with his Maserati 250F, which he drove to victory in the following year’s Monaco Grand Prix.
At the wheel was historic racer and restorer Rick Hall “It was a real privilege to drive around this historic track and a truly fantastic experience,” he said.

“Aintree was the scene of so many big events in its heyday, it really is a magical and unique place. There is so much motor racing history history here; you can feel it as soon as you arrive.”
Following the Maserati’s run, 80 cars including vintage Bentleys and Jaguar C and D types took part in a support parade.
