The words ‘Brands Hatch, 1970’ stir certain emotions in motor racing fans, particularly those with penchant for sports cars.
In pouring rain, exactly 47 years ago today, Pedro Rodríguez produced one of the greatest displays in sports car history, overturning a one-lap deficit to lead a 917 1-2-3 in the Brands Hatch 1000kms. He was a full five laps clear at the flag.
