Thousands of readers have cast their vote for the Race Car of the Century and with hours left to vote, the result of the poll remained too close to call.
The shortlist of ten cars — one from each decade of the past 100 years — sparked plenty of debate as voters weighed up the merits of the Bentley Speed Six against the Porsche 917; whether the Ferrari 166 or Subaru Impreza is more significant; and if the Lotus 49 or McLaren MP4/4 was more successful.
Only one car can be chosen as the greatest of the past 100 years, however. Voting has now cosed and we’re counting up the totals before announcing the winner later this summer.
