The Miami Grand Prix was an early season highlight of the IMSA GTP Championship from 1983 to 1993. The street race switched to the Trans-Am series in 1994, and then to Champ Cars a year later for what was the last event before it moved to the new Homestead oval. The direction of the circuit was changed for that final race to avoid the previous bottleneck at Turn 1.
