The Moosehead Grand Prix was held for five years at two different temporary courses in Halifax, the state capital of Nova Scotia. Sponsored by Canada’s oldest independent brewery, a narrow street circuit set around the Citadel Hill and its historic fort was venue for the first four years. The three of which were headlined by the American Indycar Series – a club championship founded by Bill Tempero for old Champ Car chassis and stock block engines. That category was replaced as the main attraction by a non-championship Formula 3000 race in 1993 with a field drawn from the British series. First qualifying was cancelled when the drivers’ demanded changes to the bumpy circuit and the event moved out of town for 1994.
