Championship success three years later proved that a wise investment.rnrn<strong>Successful graduation to car racing<\/strong>rnrnHis car racing debut was in the 2000 Formula BMW Championship when driving for Peter Mamerow. Winner of the Junior Cup that year, Glock was crowned German Formula BMW Champion in 2001. He graduated to German Formula 3 and his KMS Dallara F302-Opel won three times to clinch third in the championship. He remained with the team for the 2003 F3 Euroseries and won another three races.rnrn<strong>Formula 1 with Jordan<\/strong>rnrnRather than continue in the junior categories, Glock signed as reserve driver for Jordan Grand Prix in 2004. He impressed when testing the Jordan EJ14-Ford on GP Fridays and replaced regular race driver Giorgio Pantano for the Canadian GP when the Italian\u2019s sponsorship payment was delayed.rnrnAhead of team leader Nick Heidfeld at the finish, Glock was promoted to seventh (and a points scorer) when both Williams and Toyota teams were disqualified for minor technical infringements. Pantano returned temporarily but Glock completed the final three GPs as a race driver once more.rnrn<strong>Champ Cars and GP2<\/strong>rnrnWithout an F1 opportunity for 2005, he took Deutsche Post sponsorship to Champ Cars and Rocketsports. The highlight was his second place finish in Montr\u00e9al when he was ordered by stewards to relinquish the lead to Oriol Servi\u00e0 on the last lap due to his overly robust defence of the lead. Eighth in the final standings, Glock was also named Rookie of the Year.rnrnF1 remained his focus and Glock raced in the GP2 Series from 2006. A mid-season switch from BCN Competici\u00f3n to iSport International was rewarded with race wins and fourth in the standings as he went wheel-to-wheel with champion Lewis Hamilton. The German remained with the team for 2007 and withstood a late challenge from Lucas di Grassi to clinch the title at the final round.rnrn<strong>Formula 1 return with Toyota<\/strong>rnrnGlock also tested for the BMW Sauber F1 team at the time and returned to GP racing in 2008 with Toyota. He survived substantial accidents in Australia and Germany and finished an impressive second in Hungary after qualifying a career-best fifth. The year ended with Glock as a central figure in the most dramatic championship showdown to date.rnrnNeeding to finish the Brazilian GP in fifth position to win the world championship, Hamilton trailed the German\u2019s Toyota TF108 by 13.1 seconds as he entered the last lap. But with Glock struggling with dry tyres on the now wet track, Hamilton passed him on the final corner to take fifth and the title. Third in Malaysia and second in Singapore during 2009 meant that Glock finished 10th in the championship for the second successive season.rnrnToyota withdrew from F1 at the end of 2009 and Glock joined newcomers Virgin Racing for three seasons among GP racing\u2019s minnows. It was renamed Marussia in 2012 but proved no more competitive. Twelfth in the 2012 Singapore GP was his best result for the team before he left at the end of that season.rnrn<strong>DTM with BMW<\/strong>rnrnTired of making up the numbers at the back of the field, Glock joined BMW for the 2013 DTM. He scored his breakthrough victory in the final race of the season at Hockenheim to clinch ninth overall. Without victory during his second campaign in the competitive German touring car series, Glock dominated the Oschersleben meeting during 2015. He qualified on pole position for the first time before leading from start-to-finish.rnrnDuring 2016, he was disqualified from second place at Hockenheim before winning round four at Spielberg. He qualified on the front row for the second race at the Lausitzring but failed to score another podium for the remainder of the season.rnrnThe opening weekend of the 2017 season saw Glock finish second in race one and on pole for race two at Hockenheim. Second at the Hungaroring, he converted pole position at Zandvoort into another victory. He qualified on pole position for a third time at the Hockenheim finale but only finished third after a robust battle for the lead with Jamie Green. The fifth DTM victory of his career followed at Hockenheim at the start of 2018 in what Glock described as &#8220;the coolest race of my life.&#8221; He scored another four podium finishes as he clinched a career-best fifth overall.rnrnGlock&#8217;s 2019 campaign was less successful as poor reliability stymied his challenge.
