Historic De Tomaso back in Europe

July 7, 2014

A De Tomaso Isis Formula Junior is racing in Europe for the first time in the hands of new owner Mike Gregory, 50 years after it was built in Modena.

The 1959 chassis was De Tomaso’s first single-seater design and Alejandro De Tomaso tested it at the Modena Autodrome before it was shipped to the US. It is thought to be the only such car in Europe and just two of the other five built are known to still exist.

“It’s had a total nut and bolt rebuild, which has taken three years,” said Gregory. “It’s been a real adventure.”

Paul Lawrence

Here is a man who goes racing every weekend from March to October. Paul’s passion for the sport goes back to when he was a child of the 1960s. He has organised, competed in and marshalled on scores of events, and has written about the subject for 20 years. He is as at home in the paddock at Brands Hatch as in a Welsh forest or at Shelsley Walsh.
