Full starting grid for today's 2025 Le Mans 24 Hours

Cadillac and Team Jota have locked out the front row of the starting grid for the 2025 Le Mans 24 Hours, after Ferrari and Toyota hit problems in the final Hyperpole qualifying sessions

Two Cadillacs will head the starting grid at the 2025 Le Mans 24 Hours this afternoon after a gripping final Hyperpole qualifying session that saw Alex Lynn take pole position in Team Jota’s No12 car while Ferrari and Toyota stumbled.

It’s a front-row lockout for Tunbridge Wells-based Team Jota, whose No38 car will start second thanks to the time set by Earl Bamber.

Behind them, the No5 Porsche 963 will start third, despite having lost a wheel on track in the first of Thursday’s two Hyperpole sessions.

Le Mans’ new three-part qualifying system proved a hit with the fastest 15 Hypercars (and the top 12 from LMP2 and LMGT3 classes) in Wednesday qualifying advancing to Hyperpole 1 on Thursday.

Peugeot’s malaise continued, as its cars were dropped at the first stage, but so too was the No6 Porsche, which was disqualified for being underweight. That promoted the No009 Aston Martin’s Valkyrie to the second stage.

It was no surprise that the newcomer failed to progress further into the Hyperpole 2 shootout for the fastest 10, but it was a shock when it was joined by two Ferraris, while the No5 Porsche limped back to the pits on three wheels having set a time fast enough to progress

The drama continued into Hyperpole 2, with pole decided in the closing seconds of the session. The only Toyota to make the final stage didn’t set a time after Sebastien Buemi locked up the No8 car, ran into the gravel at Mulsanne Corner and returned to the pits for good.

But Porsche put up a fight, as did BMW which joined the fray when Dries Vanthoor in the No15 car put in a storming lap at the very end. But it was only good enough for fourth, behind the repaired No5 Porsche and Team Jota Cadillacs — Alex Lynn taking the pole that had eluded him by 0.15sec last year.

The best-placed Ferrari will be the No50 in seventh, with the No36 Alpine ninth and No8 Toyota 10th.

In LMP2, Mathias Beche finished fastest in his class for TDS Racing, while the LMGT3 grid will be led across the start line by the No27 Aston Martin, thanks to Mattia Drudi’s qualifying performance for Heart of Racing. Also standing out was Valentino Rossi, driving his BMW M4 to third in the LMGT3 grid placings, one ahead of the Iron Lynx’s No61 Mercedes-AMG, which made it to Hyperpole for the first time this World Endurance Championship season.
